About the Irish Arts Center
Founded in 1972, The Irish Arts Center in Hell’s Kitchen is a hub of activity. Its purpose is to preserve, celebrate, develop, and share the work of well-known and emerging artists. It preserves and shares grassroots traditions and culture with future generations. Since its founding, the Irish Arts Center has fostered a strong partnership between the people of Ireland and the city of New York. Recently, the center underwent a 60-million-dollar renovation that resulted in a state-of-the-art new facility. The Irish Arts Center annual open house is a perfect time to tour the center and see the good work it is doing for the local community.
The Devlin Café
The Devlin Café at Irish Arts Center normally opens 90 minutes prior to showtime on performance nights. However, it will be hosting traditional music and dance performances throughout the day of the open house. This welcoming space features handcrafted Irish furniture by Orior. The menu served in the café includes classics like potato leek soup with black pudding, Irish ham and cheese sandwiches, Kerrygold buttered popcorn, and mini shepherd pies.

JL Greene Theatre
The JL Greene Theatre is the newest addition and centerpiece of the Irish Arts Center. The latest technology has been added, including a wire tension grid, telescoping seating, masonite floors, and plywood walls with unistrut. It will be the home of music and dance performances and lessons. Visitors can experience performances by local and well-known artists during the open house. There is even an opportunity to get involved and learn a few dance steps. Performances are designed to be family-friendly, with audience members of all ages welcome to attend.

Studio and Library Classrooms
Explore arts and crafts and film screenings inspired by Ireland’s rich cultural heritage. This year, the Studio classroom highlights the work of Cartoon Saloon, the acclaimed Irish animation studio, through activities influenced by their award-winning films. Meanwhile, the Library classroom offers hands-on experiences such as story hours featuring traditional Irish fables, courses in Irish language, and puppetry workshops. This is a unique opportunity to dive deeper into Ireland’s artistic traditions while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere at the Irish Arts Center.

The Irish Arts Center offers a wide variety of courses throughout the year. They are perfect for learning a new skill while appreciating the rich cultural heritage of Ireland. There is something for all creative interests, from music to language, dance, theater arts, and crafts. There are also classes designed for kids and families, allowing parents to introduce their children to Irish traditions. The center hosts professionals and cultural influencers to present master classes, workshops, and talks. How to Attend
The events taking place at the Irish Arts Center are on Saturday, March 8th, 2025. Events start at noon and end at four. While the event is free to attend, you should reserve your spot in advance on the center’s website. The Irish Arts Center is a ten-minute cab ride or a 30-minute walk from the Lucerne Hotel.
